TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iranian Qari Hamed Alizadeh who came first in the recitation category of Malaysia international Quran competition returned home on Monday.

Alizadeh arrived at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini (RA) International Airport in the early hours of Monday and was received by a number of Iranian Quranic officials and members of the Quranic community.

Quran master Gholam Reza Shahmiveh, who accompanied Alizadeh in Malaysia and provided him with guidance on Quran recitation, also returned from Malaysia on the same flight.

The 59th edition of Malaysia’s international Quran competition came to a conclusion in a ceremony held on Saturday in Kuala Lumpur’s Putra Jaya World Trade Center.

Winners of different categories were announced and awarded at the closing ceremony, which was attended by high-raking officials, including Malaysia’s king.

The panel of judges announced Hamed Alizadeh from the Islamic Republic of Iran as the top rank winner in the category of recitation. He managed to score 89.96 out of 100.

The runner-up in this category was Hussein Tahir Shakir from Iraq while Malaysia’s representative Wan Fakh al-Razi bin Wan Muhammad came third.

A total of 91 Quran reciters and memorizers from 49 countries attended the six-day Quranic event.

Another Iranian Quran reciter, Mohsen Hajihassani Kargar, also came first in Malaysia’s international Quran contest back in 2015.
