TEHRAN (IQNA) – Hisham Salim Ahmed Zaidan is an Egyptian medical doctor who has become a well-known Qari at a young age.

Young Egyptian Qari Says He Has Own Style of Recitation

Hisham began learning the Quran by heart in high school, unlike many others in his country who begin memorizing the Holy Book at an early age.

But this did not prevent him from learning recitation rules and principles very soon and becoming a prominent Qari in a short time.

In an interview with al-Wafd website, Hisham said he studied the principles of Tajweed recitation of the Quran with Master Sheikh Ahmed al-Imara, a renowned Quran teacher in Hisham’s home-province of Gharbia.

His first recitations were at school and then before Friday prayers and in religious programs.

While studying at university, he recited the Quran on different occasions and soon his fame spread in the province and later across Egypt and even beyond.

He received a permission to recite the Quran in Hafs from Asim narration and in 2012, he began reciting the Quran at a local radio station.

Asked about his family’s role in his Quranic achievements, Hisham said his mother and his father, who died when he was in high school, would always encouraged him to read the Quran and listen to recitations by prominent Quran masters.

As for imitating prominent Qaris in recitation, Hisham said it is ok to do so in some areas but a Quran reciter should have his own style and can add something to the world to recitation.

He said he has learned a lot from such masters as Sheikh Mustafa Ismail, Sheikh Raghib Mustafa Ghalwash, and Sheikh Shahat Muhammad Anwar, but stressed that he has developed his own style of recitation.

As for the present-era Quran reciters in Egypt, Hisham said he likes the recitations of Sheikh Taha Othmani and Sheikh Abdul Fattah al-Taruti, among others.

He finally urged that Quran reciters should have Taqva (God-fearing) so that God will pave the way for their success in various areas.
