TEHRAN (IQNA) – Sixteen-year-old Mohammad Mahmoudi has been selected to represent Iran in the upcoming international Quran contest in Algeria.

The organizers of the North African country’s international Quranic event have recently sent an invitation for Iran to take part in the competition.

Iranian Quranic officials then introduced Mahmoudi as the country’s contender.

Born in 2002 in Tabriz, northwest Iran, Mahmoudi, is a Quran memorizer.

He managed to learn the entire Quran by heart at the age of 9.

Last year, he competed for the Islamic Republic in Kuwait’s international Quran contest but won no titles.

The 15th edition of Algeria’s international Quran competition is slated to be held on June 3-9, during the holy Islamic month of Ramadan.

Last year, Iran’s Mohammad Ali Eslami came 5th in the 14th edition of the Quranic event.
