Eminent Egyptian Qari Dies

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Sheikh Mahmoud Abul Wafa al-Saeidi, a prominent Quran reciter in Egypt, died at the age of 64.

 

According to Sky News Arabic, he died after returning from Umrah pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

His funeral will be held at Sayyida Zeinab Mosque in Cairo after noon prayers on Tuesday.

A memorial service will be later held at his home in al-Maadi district of the city.

Born in 1954 in Kalh al-Jabal village in Aswan governorate, al-Saeidi started learning the Quran at an early age.

He later went to Cairo to learn Quran recitation skills at Al-Azhar Islamic Center.

Egypt has introduced some of the most prominent Quran reciters to the Muslim world in the past decades.

Some of them have been praised for their Quran recitation skills by Muslims worldwide and even by non-Muslims.
