TEHRAN (IQNA) – The chairman of Turkey’s left-wing nationalist Patriotic Party stressed the need for regional countries to form a joint front to counter the US and Israel.

Turkish Politician Underlines Regional Joint Front against US, Israeli Threats

“Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and other countries of the region should form a joint front because the US and Israel are threats against all of us,” Dogu Perincek told IQNA in an interview.

“They (Washington and Tel Aviv) pursue the ‘Greater Israel’ scheme in the region,” he said, noting, though, that the plan has for the most part failed.

“There is also the so-called ‘deal of the century’ plan against which we should all be united as well.”

Referring to the Zionist regime’s latest decisions to expand settlement activities in occupied Palestinian territories, he said Israel should feel a powerful obstacle before it to be forced to abandon such plans.

Just this past week, Israeli authorities advanced plans for the construction of 780 new illegal settler units in the occupied West Bank, days before US President-elect Joe Biden takes office.

Peace Now, which tracks settlement construction in the occupied territory, said Sunday that Israel has approved "plans to build 780 housing units in settlements, most of them deep in the West Bank”, adding that the move will put the Tel Aviv regime "on a collision course" with the incoming US administration.

The announcement came a week after Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered plans be advanced for the construction of 800 new illegal settler units in the occupied West Bank.

Elsewhere in the interview, Perincek referred to the recent developments in the US, including the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, and said new movements are emerging amid the clashes between the Republicans and Democrats in the country.

“There is the possibility that a third power will rise from among the American people,” he said, adding that it would be in the interests of the people of the region.

On January 6, supporters of outgoing US President Donald Trump launched a deadly assault on the US Capitol in Washington, DC, disrupting briefly the certification of the November election results. Five people were killed in the siege.

Trump was impeached for the second time last week under the charge of incitement of an insurrection. The Senate will not vote on impeachment until after President-elect Biden’s inauguration.
