TEHRAN (IQNA) – A senior Iranian qari and former Quranic official said the country should use the capacities in the field of Quranic diplomacy.

Iranian Qari Mehdi Qarasheikhlu

Speaking to IQNA, Mehdi Qarasheikhlu said he believes Iran can have the most gains in the field of Quranic development by employing Quranic diplomacy.

He said that the Islamic Republic, for example, can organize Quranic circles in other countries with the participation of Iranian Quran reciters and memorizers.

“I have been to more than 30 countries to attend Quranic circles and these programs were warmly welcomed in all of those countries,” he stated.

He said in a trip to a European country several years ago, for instance, he saw a large number of people attending the Quranic programs to listen to Quran recitations by qaris from Iran, Egypt, and Iraq.

Qarasheikhlu said all Muslim countries make efforts in the field of Quranic activities and Iran has also has been very active in this field over the past four decades (since the victory of the Islamic Revolution).

“We have seen growth in various areas and good capacities have been created in Iran in the field of Quranic activities,” he added, stressing that the current Quranic capacities of the country today are incomparable to those existing prior to the victory of the revolution.

The former head of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization’s Quranic Center said, however, that there is still need to further develop these capacities.

Qarasheikhlu went on to say that sending qaris to other countries to hold Quranic programs began in the 1980s but it has been limited in recent years despite its potential to introduce the Quranic accomplishments of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the world.
