It was jointly organized by the Dar-ol-Quran Center affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine and the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU).
It was the second such Quranic program dubbed “Shuhada al-Abrar (righteous martyrs)”, according to Haj Rasoul al-Wazni, an official with the center.
He said it was held to commemorate martyrs and their braveries.
Top Iraq qaris Bashar al-Matiri, Baraq al-Ibadi and Ali al-Maryani recited verses from the Quran at the program.
There was also an address by Sheikh Azid al-Maliki, a PMU Quranic official, who highlighted the sacrifices made by martyrs and their status before God.
He also noted that the Shuhada al-Abrar Quranic program is going to be held every month.
The PMU, also known as Hashd al-Shaabi, is a government-sponsored umbrella organization composed of around 40 factions of volunteer counter-terrorism forces, including mostly Shia Muslim groups like Asa'ib, besides Sunni Muslims, Christians and Kurds.
