Five Booked for Desecrating Quran in Lahore
Police also arrested the main accused identified as Qari Azizullah, a resident of Chitral, while the other accused were still at large. The locals became furious and gathered outside the house of the accused. However, timely action of the police soothed the angry protestors.
A heavy contingent of police reached the site and assured the protestors of stern action against the accused. They collected forensic evidence and registered statements of the eyewitnesses.
Police registered an FIR No 115/15 against Qari Azizullah, Alhaj Qari Waliullah Shah Bukhari and four to five other unidentified persons under sections 295-B and 109 of PPC on the complaint of Muhammad Yousaf.
The complainant stated he was coming back to his home at Mohalla Shah Noor Park early in the morning at around 5:30 am. As he reached near Anwar Chanay Wala near Noor Road, Siddiquia Colony, he saw Qari Azizullah and four to five other unidentified persons burning the pages of Holy Quran. They were taking those pages out of a bag lying near them.
When the complainant protested against it, Alhaj Qari Waliullah Bukhari shouted at him from his house and asked him to mind his own business. Meanwhile, Abdur Rehman, Muhammad Hassan, Muhammad Imran and Sajid Naeem also came there and witnessed the situation. They informed the police.
As the police reached there, a large number of people had gathered there already. They demanded death to the accused. President of Siddiquia Market reached there and told the people that the accused had been arrested and an FIR had been lodged against them. He appealed to the shopkeepers to open their shops.
Police also remained busy in assuring and convincing the people not to take the law into their hands.
