Mauritania Capital Hosting Quran Competition

TEHRAN (IQNA) –  The 5th edition of a Quran competition named Sheikh ul-Qurra Syedi Abdullah Abi Bakr al-Tanuwajiwi began in Mauritania’s capital of Nouakchott on Saturday.

 

The contest is held annually during the holy month of Ramadan.

The contenders compete in the categories of memorization and Tajweed recitation of the Quran, according to al-Akhbar website.

A total of 421 Quran reciters and memorizers are talking part in the Quranic event.

There are three stages, the first one will last for five days. The 30 top participants will make it to the second round and then the top three will be selected in the third and final round.

Winners will be awarded at the closing ceremony, which will include a forum about al-Tanuwajiwi.

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a country in the Maghreb region of western North Africa.

The country’s population is estimated to be about 4 million and virtually all Mauritanians are Muslims.

Quranic activities and programs are very popular in the African country.
